Biosketch Dr. Kang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University and the Director of the Manufacturing Intelligence Lab (MIL). His research focuses on developing Manufacturing Intelligence by integrating multimodal sensing, artificial intelligence, physics-informed AI, and autonomous decision-making to create smart manufacturing systems. His research integrates multimodal sensing, machine learning, computer vision, and autonomous manufacturing, with applications in additive manufacturing, shipbuilding, robotics, semiconductor manufacturing, infrastructure health monitoring, and biotechnology. Prior to joining SDSU, Dr. Kang developed advanced optical proximity correction technologies for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing at Intel and previously led the development of AI-based optical defect inspection and characterization systems that were successfully commercialized to improve manufacturing yield in Samsung's display production. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, M.S. in Management, and a Certificate in Management of Technology (MOT) from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
