Welcome to the Manufacturing Intelligence Laboratory (MIL) at San Diego State University. Our mission is to advance intelligent and autonomous manufacturing by developing systems that can sense, understand, decide, respond, verify, and continuously learn. We integrate advanced sensing, multimodal sensor fusion, physics-informed AI, computer vision, digital twins, metrology, and agentic AI to enable real-time process monitoring, state understanding, quality prediction, decision-making, optimization, and autonomous control. Our primary application areas include additive manufacturing, machining, shipbuilding, and semiconductor manufacturing. We also extend these sensing and AI methodologies to other complex physical systems, including infrastructure monitoring, leak and fire detection, biotechnology, and wearable health monitoring.
